Company at a Glance
3QBD was founded in April, 2000 by two highly experienced professionals, Dr. Avraham Lorber and Dr. Zeev Karpas, who are well-known senior researchers at the Nuclear Research Center Negev (NRCN) in Israel both with over 30 years expertise in the field of biotechnology.
3QBD’s vision is to provide the field of Women’s Healthcare with a new diagnostic tool that will transform the health and well-being of women throughout the world. Today, with the 3QBD solution, the patented VGTest, women can receive improved healthcare as their physicians diagnose within 60 seconds their infections more accurately, more rapidly and with more precision – thus enabling correct immediate treatment.
Future development plans for 3QBD include expanding research further into the medical field, to detect additional infections and diseases, particularly in the field of oncology. Other applications for the technology area also envisaged for food and livestock.
Technology & Product(s)
IMS (Ion Mobility Spectrometry) Technology
3QBD’s technology is based on the well established and scientifically proven Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology – first used successfully to detect drugs and explosives. Today IMS is being used to detect the presence and type of infection.
Chemical changes in living systems, or degradation of cells after death through enzymatic and microbial processes, are accompanied by the breakdown of amino-acids and production of biogenic amines. Pathological conditions in the human body may be expressed in the formation of biogenic amines, so that elevated levels of biogenic amines may be indicative of dysfunctions. IMS is a sensitive instrumental technique for detecting volatile compounds. It is based on measuring the velocity of ions (ion mobility) drifting through a gas bath under the influence of an electric field.
The Product
VGTest is a novel, patented device that uses IMS technology to diagnose the three most common forms of Vaginitis: bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis and trichomoniasis. The device works by measuring the biogenic amines in the sample that are present at elevated levels when infections are present with results within one minute. In addition the VGTest test spares the physician from having to perform the Amsel Test and “whiff tests” of vaginal fluid.
